Our Commitment to our Families - Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund

Yesterday (14th April 2025), the government announced changes to the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund (ASGSF). While funding remains at £50m, the same level as last year, the amount available for each child has been reduced from £5000 per year to £3000 per year. Funding set aside for specialist assessments has been removed, as has match funded support for children with exceptional levels of need.

We’d like to reassure our adopters and people who are considering adopting with us that as an agency, we remain fully committed to providing outstanding, lifelong support to all of our families, as we always have done. Our adoption support provision is independently funded through the work of our fundraising team and the generous donations of our supporters and donors.

Adoption Focus CEO, Anna Sharkey said:

“Whilst it is disappointing that access to support funding within the adoption sector has been reduced, Adoption Focus has always supported our adopters and their children and done so with only limited expectations of any income from the ASGSF. We’re extremely proud of the comprehensive support we provide and are committed to continuing to do so, regardless of the recent announcement from the Department for Education.”
